Don’t Give Up When the Odds are Against You!

We read in Nehemiah 4:6,

So, we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work. (NKJV)

Your resolution determines whether you will achieve success or not. Failing to reach a goal often brings disappointment, and for some people that disappointment even transforms into anger and hopelessness.

Your mindset shapes what you believe, and your beliefs determine how you act. Change your mindset, and you change your actions. Change your actions, and you change your life.

God did not make a mistake in placing you where you are now.

What God did for others He will do for you, too. If you obey God, and follow His directions, God will protect you and lead you to success despite the challenges that you may encounter. God is always ahead of us, clearing obstacles, so that the obstacles cannot prevent us from becoming successful.

You will succeed in what you do if you walk closely with God.

God declares that He goes with us and gives us victory; He will never fail or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). And when we live with integrity – honest, upright, and free from covetousness – His promise stands firm: He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

The path to success is hard, winding, rough and long. It has never been an easy road. The journey has always been difficult. Faith does not remove the difficulty of the journey. So, don’t assume it will be easy for you simply because you have faith. Success requires endurance, and the process can be exhausting, discouraging, and sometimes overwhelming. There will be moments when you cannot see how you will make it. And when progress seems slow, the delay can shake your confidence and make you feel like giving up.

We read in Proverbs 13:12,

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” (ESV)

As we have seen, the road to success is rough and difficult. That is why only a few people reach the pinnacle of success. The journey is marked by pain, uncertainty, and moments when the future feels completely unclear. You cannot always know whether your efforts will succeed or fail.

Yet anyone who desires success must keep working, keep improving, and keep believing in God and in themselves. And as you press forward, you must continually correct your mistakes and grow from them.

Many people wish, speak, and hope for success, but true success is built through hard, diligent work. It takes focused effort, disciplined thinking, and unwavering perseverance. Scripture affirms this truth: “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men,” (Proverbs 22:29; NKJV).

Where the unsuccessful see obstacles as barriers, the successful see them as steppingstones. To the unsuccessful, challenges are hindrances that stop progress; to the successful, they are necessary stages that build strength, develop character, and elevate them toward success.

The successful respond to challenges with a question: “How can I turn this obstacle into an opportunity?”

The unsuccessful respond with excuses, convincing themselves that their circumstances will never allow them to succeed.

Winning the prize is not easy. Only a few people endure the storms and defy the odds long enough to keep climbing toward success. The journey can feel lonely, heavy, and exhausting – and without faith, the weight becomes unbearable. But success belongs to those who continue believing and working, even when rejection, isolation, and failure confront them. Jesus calls us to have faith in God and trust that God answers prayer (Mark 11:22-24). Challenges touch every life. Matthew 5:45 teaches that God’s blessings – sunlight and rain – are given without partiality to the just and the unjust.

God told Cain, “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?”

Loneliness can feel overwhelming when people turn away from you, but God never abandons us. When you call on God, He responds (Psalm 50:15).

Remember – God is present, God is powerful, and God is faithful. He does not abandon those who seek Him (Deuteronomy 31:6).
